definition of tafsir:
Tafsir in Shariah, the study of which makes it easier to understand and interpret the meaning of the Qur'an revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and from which the ruling and instruction of the Shari'ah is given.
The interpretation of the Quran is called "Tafseer" by "Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jama'at" following five basic principles for interpreting the Quran. If the Qur'an is interpreted without following these five principles, it is not considered a correct interpretation of the Qur'an.
★ Five basic principles of Qur'an interpretation:
★(1) Tafsirul Quran bil Qur'an; (Tafseer of the Qur'an by the Qur'an) Allah Almighty says: And whatever they present to you, we bring you the right answers and beautiful explanations. (Surah Furqan: 33)
★(2) Tafsir al-Qur'an Bis-Sunnah; (Tafseer of the Qur'an written by Sahih Sunnah) Allah Almighty says; وَمَا عتَاكُمُ الرَّسُولُ فَخُذُوهُ وَمَا نَهَاكُمْ عَنْهُ فَانتَهُوا وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ اللَّهَ شَدِيدُ الْعِقَابِ Accept what the Messenger gives you, and refrain from what he forbids, and fear Allah. Verily, Allah is severe in retribution. Allah Ta'ala also says: فَلْيَحْذَرِ الَّذِيْنَ يُخَالِفُوْنَ عَنْ أَمْرِ أَنْ تُصِيْبَ هُمم ْ فِتْنَةٌ اَوْ يُصِيْبَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيْمٌ - Those who oppose His command will either befall them with adversity or a painful punishment befall them" (Noor) 24/63).
★(3) Tafsirul Qur'an Bill Ashar; (Explaining a verse based on what the Companions say in the explanation of a verse, or what they have done on that verse) Almighty Allah says; وَالسَّابِقُونَ الأَوَّلُونَ مِنَ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ وَالأَنصَارِ وَالَّذِينَ ATAَّبَعُوهُم بِإِحسَانٍ رَّضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُمْ وَرَضُواْ عَنْهُ And among the Muhajir and the Ansar who are the first pioneers, and those who follow them with Ihsan, Allah is pleased with them and they are pleased with Him. (Surah 9 Tawbah 100) The Prophet (PBUH) said - تفترق امتى على تلاس وسبعين ملة كلهم في النار الا ملة واحدة فقيل ماالواحدة قال ما انا عليه واصحابى - that is, 'my ummah will be divided into seventy-three groups. Except for one group, all the other groups will be in Hell. Sahaba Keram requested, which one of those groups? The Prophet (PBUH) replied, "On the principles and ideals on which I and my Companions are." - (Bengali translation, Sahih at-Tirmidhi 2641 Part V
★(4) Tafseerul Qur'an Bir Roy; (Commenting on the Qur'an with the help of the Sahaba, Tabe'in, Tabe-Tabeen's opinion is also a correct method of Tafseer) The best man of the best era, ie; Sahabah Kiram, Tabayeen, and Tabay Tabayeen. In the hadith, it is said: ». قَالَ عِمْرَانُ: فَمَا عدري قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ مَرَّتَيْنِ اَو ثَلَثً ثُمَّ يَكُونُ بَعْدَهُمْ قَوْمٌ يَشْهَدُونَ وَلَاَ يُسْتَشَدُونَ وَيَخُونُونَ وَلاَيُ ؤْتَمَنُونَ, وَيَنْذِرُونَ وَلَاَ يُوفُونَ, وَيَظْهَرُ فِيهمُ السَّمَنُ ». عَلَيْهِ عَلَيْهِ On the authority of Imran Ibn Husayn Radiyallahu Anhu, who said, The Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, said, The best era among my ummah is the era of my Companions. Imran said, "I do not know whether the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, mentioned two eras after his era, or three eras. Then there will appear some people after you who will testify but they will not be accepted as witnesses. They are unfaithful and cannot be trusted. They will swear in the name of Allah but will not fulfill it. And fatness will appear in their bodies.''
★(5) Tafsirul Qur'an Bill Lugah; (The Tafseer of the Qur'an through the Arabic language, the Tafseer of the Qur'an-e-Karim, sometimes requires the help of Arabic linguistic knowledge, because the Holy Qur'an was revealed in the Arabic language) Almighty Allah says; إِنَّا جَعَلْنَاهُ قُرْآنًا عَرَبِيًّا لَّعَلَّكُمْ تَعْقِلُونَ Surely We have made the Qur'an in Arabic, perhaps you may understand it with your intellect. (Surah 43 Zukhruf 3)
